French Polynesia honeymoon

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hello,
I am planning my honeymoon, for the beginning of June 2011 and after a couple of weeks in California am hoping to arrange 6-7 nights in Bora Bora and Moorea.

Can anyone recommend any fab places to stay on each of these island (or other islands that you think shouldn't be missed)?
I was thinking 3nights Moorea and 4 nights Bora Bora - one island would be an overwater bungalow and the other maybe a beach bungalow?
Recommendations on things to do while there would be fab.

Also, would you recommend booking this as a package with an agent, for honeymoon perks and the best deals? While I live in the UK, as we'll already be in California, we'll only need a return package from LA.
Am trying to plan a budget now, but as flights prices and hotels prices aren't released until a year before the travel date, can anyone give me an idea of how much I should budget for flights, accommodation?

Thank you!

Both islands are fab places with fab things to do. :-)

Overwater bunglows are expensive. If you hang out with the poeple on tahiti explorer, you'll get lots of up-to-date information:

The Tripadvisor Tahiti forum is a good place also. While I do hang out on Tahiti Explorer, it's run by a travel agent and thus other travel agents/providers can't be mentioned there.

I would definately get prices from several travel agents, a package may save you money. Don't count on honeymoon perks, they see tons of honeymooners in the upscale resorts. Do get quotes from the people who run Tahiti Explorer as well as Meherio (a destination expert on TripAdvisor). They are both based in California and have excellent reputations. (I book my trips independently but don't stay at the upscale resorts.)

Consider the Sofitels - the one on Moorea, while a bit out of the way, has beautiful views across the Sea of the Moon to Tahiti as well as a lovely beach to wander along. The Bora Bora one is on it's own motu (islet) with the BEST snorkelling in the coral gardens behind it. Easy access to the Matira Point area for small shops and restaurants.
