French Polynesia with kids - carte famille on Air Tahiti ?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Do you know if Air Tahiti still has the carte famille to get around to the other islands without breaking the bank? Is this limited to Tahiti residents, or can others (EU passport holders) get those, too? We have two kids, 5 and 10, so if those cards still exist and are available to us, that would be great! We've read alsewhere to book ahead, however, since we read that the carte famille must be obtained in person, we wonder how well this will work? We'll appreciate any suiggestions and pointers for info, and in particular anybody who has had experience in travelling in French Polynesia with kids!
Here is some info from my blog. The way someone on another forum used the pass was that he planned the first week of his vacation in Moorea which is reachable via ferry and used the pass to purchase tickets to Bora Bora for him and his family a week in advance. | 1
As far as I know, the carte famille is still available. We purchased ours at the Air Tahiti office in Papeete. You will need to have passport-size photos of each person, which I'd suggest getting ahead of time. We didn't and had to pay an outrageous amount to get them at a local photography shop. For some reason, this discount card is not well-publicized, and info is hard to get ahead of time or when you are outside FP. | 2
