getting a second stay in australia

Hi
I am an Irishman in australia. I have been working since I landed here, however prior to landing I had some debts which i still need to clear. Anyhow the work holiday visa runs out on january the 3rd next year. I have applied for a residency visa and as have to wait for it to come through. To make things worse i paid a solicitor to look after my affairs, so it cost me more again. i really want to stay in australia but its not looking good for me. I am a skilled person so i dont know what the problem is when it comes to getting work.
I am an engineer.
I know there is sponsorship and the thing about getting married. Just wondering is there any other options like starting my own company or something to get the boys in blue let me stay.
My biggest worry is am going to be broke again. and my cv is looking shit
