Getting Around - Seems DifficultCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi everyone, From what I can gather, getting from one's hotel into Nadi and then to the Port for the boats is quite a task. I can't seem to find any info on regular local buses that ply routes past the hotels that claim to be in Nadi, but arent really - 8km from Nadi, 15kms from Nadi etc. can anyone tell me the best way to get from these "Nadi" hotels into town and then to the port for the boats to the islands? we'd prefer not to have to rent a car as we wanna spend our time visiting different islands, we'll only be in fiji for 4 nights. Thanks!
How did you gather that? Getting from the airport, to the hotel, to the port is extremely easy. Pretty much every accommodation provider in Nadi offers a free pickup from the airport - all you have to do is advise them of your flight number and arrival time. Then in the morning, SSC/Awesome Adventures has buses that stop outside or near most accommodation and take you to the port for free (you should book your boat transfers in advance). If you're not staying at a place with free airport pickup, or not using SSC/Awesome Adventures, then you could easily hire a taxi for a few dollars. | 1
how about getting from one's hotel into town? we would like to eat in nadi to save money and would like to know if there are any local buses that ply these routes. our choice of hotel does offer airport transfers as where we wanna stay in acrosss the road from the airport but not to the port and other locales. | 2
Many of those out-of-town hotels are still along the main road and thus accessible by buses anyway. | 3
Which hotel are yo staying at? | 4
Taxis in Fiji are cheap. However some taxi drivers will try to rip you off. Ask for the price first and if it seems unreasonably ask them to be sure to switch their meters on. Some have their meters off and put their own price on. It is unlawful in Fiji for taxis's not to have meters running. So be aware. Have a great time in Fiji. | 5
We stayed at Raffles near the airport and had no problems getting into Nadi by bus that stopped right outside. We also used the bus to get to Martinair(sp?) in the evenings as there were a number of places there to eat. Never did get a schedule - we just asked at the front desk when the next bus would be coming by. There was also a bus that picked us up at Raffles to take us to the Yasawa Flyer dock. Using the buses is a great way to meet the locals! | 6
