Getting from Honiara to Nauru?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi there, I am in the process of planning flights for a 3 month trip in oceania, and wondered if there is a way to get from honiara to nauru? our airline has apparently stopped flying that stretch. as far as i see, it might involve flying honiara-fiji-nauru, but i prefer not to. same applies for flying from eg. kiribati-tuvalu-samoa-tonga: as far as i can see now, there are no flights between those countries. and as far as i understand, no ships, either - or very irregular ones... any help very much appreciated!
If the Brisbane-Honiara -Nauru flight no longer operates (and someone on this site has reported that), the quickest option to get from Honiara to Nauru would be via Brisbane Australia. There are daily direct flights from Honiara to Brisbane (Solomon Airlines and Virgin Blue) whereas there are only one or two flights a week from Honiara to Nadi, and they stop in Port Vila. (Air Pacific/Air Vanuatu/ Solomon Airlines, probably code share). | 1
hi ozziegiraffe, an our airline employee personally mailed me to tell me that those flights are not operated anymore, because of low passenger figures. you seem to be very knowledgeable about the region. do you think it is better to fly through brisbane, instead of fiji? it seemed to me that that was the most useful hub, and i am afraid i will be doing a lot of backtracking between outlying islands/countries, and fiji, to travel from one country to the other. best regards | 2
This Solomon Airlines timetable (click on latest schedule, middle right) lists codeshare flights to Nadi from Honiara. It also has Solomon Airlines flights to and from Brisbane. Virgin has 2 additional flights each week. | 3
It's better to fly through Brisbane. AFAIK, flights from Fiji to Nauru, if they are still running (as it seems), are only fortnightly (more info here). | 4
but even from brisbane, there is only one flight every 2 weeks, right? so, probably i should fly in from fiji, spend 5 days on nauru, and then continue on the nauru-tarawa flight? considering the fact that there appear to be quite some changes in schedule, i am a little weary to plan and book flights now for sep/oct, that might well change or even get cancelled, meaning connections might no longer work. | 5
but even from brisbane, there is only one flight every 2 weeks, right? AFAIK, the flight from Brisbane to Nauru is, as Ozziegiraffe said in #6, weekly (i.e.: once a week). | 6
And the Nadi-Nauru flight leaves at 10 am, so would require at least 1 night's accommodation in Fiji. | 7
that's not what the timetable shows, that the our airline employee mailed me. a fortnightly (twice a month) flight brisbane-nauru-tarawa. same for the nadi-nauru flights. it also says so on their site.

Have you checked their website? I wasn't looking at Tarawa, but they definitely list Brisbane-Nauru weekly. | 9
a fortnightly (twice a month) flight brisbane-nauru-tarawa. The web of Our Airline (the link I provided in #4) says the flight Brisbane-Nauru is once a week. It doesn't talk about flights to Tarawa though (at least in the schedule I linked). It could be that the flight Brisbane-Nauru is once a week whilst once a fortnight it continues to Tarawa after Nauru. As you got in contact with the airline, you can try to ask them about it. | 10
