Goroka to Vanimo transport options??

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi Everyone,

I'll be working for a couple of months 50km out of Goroka and really want to get up to Vanimo after my stint. I was just wondering what the cheapest travel option would be to get to Vanimo. I also have some time issues so dont want to spend to long getting there!!

Cheers,

Will

Hmmm....
If you have time constraints, flying is your best option. You could also trek there. If you can get down to Lae or madan,g I think there are ships that go up there. Ask in at a Star Ships office...I think they are the ones who run that one. If you want to have an amazing time, you could take a PMV down to Madang and then up to Boroi where you can get a banana boat up the Sepik to Angoram. From there, you can catch another PMV to Wewak and then take a ship to Vanimo. That would be fun.

Just out of curiosity, why Vanimo? I found it to be pretty boring....

You want the cheapest way, but don't want it to take long time.

Well, I am afraid in PNG that just won't work out - have to drop one of the critereas.

Z, I guess OP wants to get to Indonesia?

Yeah i know i need to compromise haha i was just checking my options.

Im aiming for vanimo for the surf. Ive heard great things.

I think maybe the boat from Lae will be the best option!!

Or maybe direct flight from POM
