Guam and Palau with infantCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi everyone Basically I'd be thankful for any advice....
I am sure that you will be fine discretely breastfeeding in public Palau. When a Palaun woman gives birth to her first child, the hold a festival where the new mother walks around topless. Go to the museum and you'll see pictures of topless ancestors. So I'd be surprised if a Palaun would be offended, especially given how much importance they place on family. Given that you don't snorkel or dive, you might stay on northern Babeldaub. You can get there by car, and there are nice beaches. I spent only a little time on Babeldaub, but I've seen recommendations for places to stay in past threads (or pick up the Papa Mike Palau guide). The road is very well-maintained. Note that unless you request otherwise, your rental car will have the steering wheel on the right, even though Palauans drive on the right, because most vehicles are from Japan for the Japanese market. Alternatively, you might take the ferry to Anguar, but it is a long boat ride (3+ hours) and I'm told the last leg from Peliliu (which is as far as I got) is quite rough. The island is supposed to be easy to get around, with nice beaches and has monkeys. But you would want to bring all of the baby food and nappies you need from Koror, as stores on the other islands tend to have limited stock. Guam and Palau both use the same electric plugs that they use in the U.S. | 1
Thank you so much Tilo I appreciate your info. I was looking at Balebaub so I will definately do that. Where can I get Papa Mike's book??? I'm very interested to get it. | 2
You're welcome! You can buy Papa Mike's book at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Papa-Mikes-Palau-Islands-Handbook/dp/059537607X. It was printed 4 years ago and is the most up-to-date guidebook. | 3
To see the "majesty of the place" in Palau you must go via boat to the rock islands. Anything else and you are short changing your self. What makes Palau special is those islands and the lagoon surrounding them. | 4
