Happy Turkey Day!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Well, it's Thanksgiving in the US today, so happy turkey day to fellow Yanks!

Turkey is not a major food in the South Pacific, but ham (pork) is, and of course yams are all over the place. So, when you take a bite of that yam, think of palm trees and nice beaches and crystal clear lagoons---especially if it's a bit chilly where you are!

Enjoy!

Raro

happy thanksgiving to you, Raro.

Turkey in the S. pacific? Only the "tails" BBQ'd in Samoa... very tasty, but apparantly not very healthy for you.

Thanks, Raro!
We'll have rhum'd sweet potato casserole, but no turkey today. :-)

Tis cold and some light snow around. Good for Thanksgiving. I remember the heat in the kitchen when we made the entire thing there in Palau- we did manage to get a frozen turkey.

Have a wonderful day and watch a sunset for me.

Hi all, I just had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixins on Ofu in American Samoa. Turkey, mashed potato, sweet potato, cranberry sauce and pie. Yum!

I'm so jealous, silvanocat. I'm guessing you're at Vaoto Lodge? I called Deborah at the lodge on Thursday to finalize my Christmas trip.

I've had a couple of Thanksgiving dinners at the lodge. Nothing quite as nice as turkey on Ofu. May be some turkey tail will be leftover when I get there!
