help!!! in search of beautiful beach on a budget

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

ok, so i'm hoping someone can help me. i was supposed to be going to micronesia on tue with my mom. unfortunately we're realizing that it's going to get pretty spendy with tha cost of accommodation being what it is. our thoughts were kosrae or pulau, but everything i'm seeing is about $80 a night minimum. so now (4 days before the trip) we're thinking we should go somewhere less expensive.
what you should know..
i work for the airlines so flights aren't an issue for me
we want beautiful sandy beaches with palm trees
snorkeling is good
not to touristy
i've already been to thailand and would like to go somewhere a little more creative and off the beaten track. still not opposed to micro if anyone knows of some better budget friendly options.
any suggestions would be much appreciated.
oh, we'll be leaving from san francico
thanks!!!

If you're leaving from San Fran, maybe consider Fiji. You can also go via LAX to the Cooks.

Simplest of course is Hawaii. head to Molokai for a laid-back experience.

Guam is a long long way. Not many cheap places to stay either.

Ofu Island, American Samoa. Unparalleled snorkeling, an untouched sandy beach and not touristy at all. Also an easy reach from the west coast via Hawaiian Airlines. Vaoto Lodge runs between $60-100/night.

I've traveled there 14 times since 1999 and run the website for the lodge so I can help answer any questions you may have.
