HELP: Romantic Wedding Proposal Ideas: Noumea /Isle of Pines

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi All,

I am new here and after browsing through the many topics it is evident that there is a wealth of travel knowledge here, thank you!!

I’m about to propose to my long time girlfriend and would love to hear of some romantic ideas from those who have traveled to Noumea / Isle of Pines. I will be in Noumea towards the end of Jan 2008 and will be doing a day trip to the Isle of Pines.

Having never traveled to this destination before, I was hoping that you could point me in the direction of romantic activities available. I had the though of proposing on a glass bottom boat, only to find out that it is a chartered boat and hence it wont just be the 2 of us.

Your help is appreciated!

Kind regards,

Hopeless Romantic

The most romantic spot in IDP is easily at the Piscine. Spend the night at the nearby Le Meridien (pricey, but oh so worth it for what you want. Then walk round to the Piscine - look here for picture and here's another. . In my view, the pictures dont do justice to the place....it's that gorgeous.

I would suggest that you try to set up a trip on a pirogue(outrigger canoe with sail) on Baie Upi for just the two of you. For me, it would be a most romantic trip - the trip out on the baie is just beautiful. Most people set up their trips through their accommodation but if you are just doing a day trip that won't work for you. Maybe you could track down a tour operator in Noumea or on ILe de Pins who could organize it for you. Hope this helps!

Thank you! These both sound like fabulous ideas.

I’ve exasperated Google in search of sites where I may book our activities prior to commencing our holiday.
Any recommendations?

Still open to the wonderful ideas you may have for the marriage proposal :)

The tripadvisor.com site has a forum for New Caledonia - you might try posting there for information. Or you could try e-mailing the tourism office - maybe they could put you onto a travel agency who would set up what you want. If not, when you get to Ile de Pins try heading to Baie St. Joesph to see if you could arrange a trip on the spot. Good luck!
