honeymoon in south pacific

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

hi guys
we were thinking about doing our honeymoon, 1 month, visiting 2-3 islands in south pacific
we were thinkg about starting in fiji and then visit tonga, vanuatu or kiribati
which is the best way to reach all of them, considering that we have only 30 days?
is there any flight company with good rate that can let us visit them all?
thanks in advance

To quote the Kiribati tourism authority.
"Kiribati, for travellers, not tourists"
Get to Tarawa by air from Fiji. Two flights a week, from memory.

Cheers,
Peter

we are not tourists, we r travellers
i m starting liking kiribati
so there isn't a kind of flight pass that allows you to visitmore than one island?

2

Air Pacific had a Bula pass that would have been your best bet. Nowadays Air Pacific is called Fiji Airways and I don't know if they are still ofering the pass. I think they discontinued it when they were still called Air Pacific... But, of course, it wouldn't hurt to get in touch with them and ask if they offer an airpass allowing you to make several international flights. If they don't offer nowadays such a pass (or some sort of special fare for people willing to make what you plan to make), you'll have to make a separate booking for each return flight. Be aware flights within the South Pacific aren't cheap. Take a look at the web of Fiji airlines to get an idea of the fares of a return flight from Nadi to Tarawa, from Nadi to Port Vila and from Nadi to Nuku'Alofa.

P.S.: neither Tonga nor Vanuatu nor Kiribati are islands. They are countries consisting of several islands and/or atolls.

Then it is probably for you.
When are you going?
There are spectacular dance and singing competitions over the Easter period.
We stayed at Marys Motel on Tarawa at Bariki.
You might enjoy Tabon Te Keeki Homestay, on the next Islet NW of the airport.

Cheers,
Peter

5

we'll go there in october i guess
a lot depends on the prices

6

i ll try to find out if there is this airpass

Keep us updated. In other words, Let us know whether they keep offering it (or a similar one) or not.

7

yes, i will
thanks anillos

8

i have discovered that maybe Star Alliance offers a South Pacific Air Pass.
but i ll check better

9

They offered it but I don't see it listed on the web of Star Alliance now so I don't know if they are still offering it but ask about it because it wouldn't be the first time they are (still) offering a pass not quoted on their list of passes. If it was still available, it wouldn't include Kiribati and you would need to backtrack to Auckland each time (or almost each time); i.e.: you would need to make Auckland-Port Vila Auckland and Auckland-Nuku'Alofa-Auckland.

Air New Zealand offers a pass for Americans and Canadians covering the same destinations that were (or are, I don't know) covered by the Star Alliance South Pacific Airpass. If Star Alliance doesn't offer the pass anymore, it would be a good idea to get in touch with Air New Zealand to ask if they offer a similar pass to EU citizens.

You could also research if Star Alliance (or United Airlines) is still offering the Micronesia pass that included Guam, Palau, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and I think Northern Mariana too... but that would mean visiting a different area of the South Pacific.

10

anillos u r the best
i ll check it out even if i havent found anything interesting on star alliance, i l lhave a look at air new zealand

11

i havent found anything interesting on star alliance

As I told you above, it wouldn't be the first time they offer a pass that isn't quoted on their list of airpasses. Therefore, you would need to get in touch with them to know for sure because consulting their web could be not enough. Getting in touch with Air New Zealand or United (depending on the area of the South Pacific you plan to visit) to double check and/or to ask if they offer any other alternative not (directly) linked with Star Alliance would be a good idea too.

12

i ll try to find out how to do it
thanks meanwhile

You can also sign up for email notifications of deals at the Air New Zealand web site.
