Honeymoon in the South PacificCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi all and thanks in advance for the advice,
I'd suggest you start by reading all of the long FAQ post at the top of this branch, lots of good info on most of the places. Then try to find a copy of David Stanley's South Pacific Handbook to help you zero in on a few main choices. He is no longer updating it, so some places to stay and restaurants will have changed, but it's also good for generalities about culture, people, price levels, what to do, etc. For the Cooks, check out the main website www.ck. There is diving on the main island of Rarotonga, and on Aitutaki, a smaller version of Bora Bora (which is in Fr. Polynesia). You'll have a lot of fun checking things out! When your choices get more narrow, or if you have more specific Q's, get back here and ask, and someone or several will have some input. | 1
You might find Tetepare in Solomon Islands interesting. It is a marine reserve set up by the local landowners, preserving sea turtles among other wildlife. | 2
I would suggest Vanuatu. There are a number of islands you can explore with activities ranging from visiting the Mt Yasser Volcano on Tanna to checking out the original bungee jumpers on Pentecost. There are marine reserves and diving is supposed to be excellent - we visited Tranquility Dive Resort(as part of a tour) where they have a turtle hatchery. As Raro stated , if you look at the FAQ you will find some information on Vanuatu. Your problem is going to be where to settle on as the choices in the SP are many and you really can't go wrong with whatever you decide on. Good luck with your planning! | 3
Most of David Stanley's book is now on Google books. "Your problem is going to be where to settle on as the choices in the SP are many and you really can't go wrong with whatever you decide on." Kadavu in southern Fiji fits the bill as well. | 4
