Hotels Tahiti Help!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Can anyone advise me on a nice hotel in Tahiti. Travelling there with my mum (60+) and will be spending our first and last night of a 10 day visit to the islands on Tahiti. We've already booked into nice hotels in Bora Bora and Moorea but finding it really difficult to pick a place to stay on Tahiti, as the reviews are very mixed about every hotel there! We'd like to stay somewhere nice, clean and reasonably close to the airport but with amenities nearby so we can have a walk about etc.....Can anyone please help?

As you'll be in Tahiti just for two night (you'll probably get a plane the day following your arrival and another the day after your stay in Society Islands), I'd recommend you to stay at the Tahiti Airport Motel http://www.tahitiairportmotel.com/

The hotel is nice, clean, and right in front of the airport and you get a room for about $150USD. I don't think it worthwhile to visit Papeete for half a day or so, especially during the weekend when everything is close. From the airport, it's a 5 to 10 minutes walk, depending of your speed and the number of luggages you have. Right, it's uphill and a lot of people complain about it, but the convenience of the location beats that.

When we were there, we went to a Chinese restaurant which is one block at the right side of the street facing the airport. There is also a coffee shop in front of that restaurant.

I haven't read any critics of the hotel lately on Tripadviser, but let me tell you that it was a lot better than what we saw in town for the same price.

Thank you for the recommendation. I did read good review about it alright, I was just put off by the uphill climb. But I'm sure its not that bad right?
Can anyone tell me where are most of the amenities in Tahiti, or generally what area is the best to stay in? If there is very little to do in Faaa or Papette we'll probably just stick with the Airport motel. We arrive in Tahiti on a tuesday (we'll stay that night) and spend our last nite there also ( a wednesday night).
Any suggestions more than welcome..

I'd take the suggestion above. Getting a taxi to the airport from town at night can be very expensive, and Le Truck does not run all night. But, you can get Le Truck into Papeete during the day, visit the market, waterfront, etc., and then head back by Le Truck by about 7pm or so, pretty cheaply. The Mandarin in Papeete is about US$150 or so, OK but nothing fancy.
