How much time in Honiara and close surrounds??Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hello, We are heading to the Solomons for a short break in May. Most time will be spent on another island but we were thinking of spending a few days in Honiara to see the sites and surrounds. I can't find much information so looking for some help... We were thinking of giving ourselves 2 days before we fly out... is that too little?
You can see a couple of WWII relics in Honiara itself, eg a cannon-type gun in the town park (I don't know guns :-). For more WWII relics, go to the Vilu War Museum. The i-Clam clam 'farm' is also interesting; it's on the way to the Vilu museum. If these two venues are still open, that is. I haven't been to Honiara recently. You won't be able to do too much in two days. Ozziegiraffe will be able to give you more suggestions/recommendations. | 1
I-Clarm moved to the Western Province in about 2000! I'm not sure the Vilu museum has officially re-opened. However, local travel operators do day trips around World War II sites (call in at the Visitors' Bureau, near the Mendana Hotel). | 2
