How to buy a boat in FijiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi, I am going to Fiji soon and am hoping to buy a small sailing boat to sail around some of the islands for two months. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Because at the moment it seems very hard to find a boat to buy. Any ideas would be greatly appreicated Thanks Mick
In such a small poor place what's on offer will be sure to disappoint. Time for Plan B | 1
The only sail boats I ever saw were owned by foreigners, usually in some phase of semi- or complete retirement or taking a year off. They brought their boats with them, and leave Fiji on them as they continue their tour of the S Pacific. Locals will more likely be using outboard motor boats to zip around their immediate locale. Small sailing craft big enough for touring the islands is for leisure class with disposable income. Doubt you'll find much to buy on Fiji, and expensive if you found something. For only 2 months I wonder if it is worth the cost even if you found something .. then resell etc etc. It won't be easy. | 2
contact the marina out of Nadi (can't beleive I've forgotten its name!) or Suva and ask for advice for there and other localised sailor havens, perhaps you could even try and lease one for a while so you're not trying to sell it when you finally leave Fiji. enjoy! | 3
