How to get to Tahiti and Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi Guys

planning a RTW trip at the moment and i am looking to try and stop in Tahiti and Fiji on my way from South America to NZ or AUS

Flights seem to be non existent or extremely expensive, how do i go about getting there without selling a kidney?

Thanks

You don't have much option with regards to travel in the Pacific. The airlines heading from LAX to Australia/NZ usually have stopover options in Tahiti and Fiji. Have a look at airtreks.com for RTW trip options - they have a number already set up or you can use their planner to set your own route - they give a price range for their routes depending on time of travel. You can also have a look at the websites for the airports you are interested in to see which airlines fly in and out and where they go - for example Cathy Pacific flies from Fiji to Hong Kong if you are interested in heading that way. Good luck with your efforts but it won't be cheap!!

OPTIMUSCAL,
Hi. Don't laugh now...book the cheapest cabin on a 'Lower Price' Cruise-ship. I'm dead serious. Free Food to-die-for, Stops at islands that may not even HAVE an airstrip, killer sea-days; And here's the best bonus of all. Tons of travel-savvy fellow shipmates. The "I don't do Cruise-ships" crowd are wa-aay off base in 'dissing' them. I've went from Backpacking Hostels to Motorcycling to Cruiseships and back to Backpacking all 'round the world this year. Many of us do it that way. Consider it. I just recently returned from a 30-day Polynesia Cruise to snorkel/dive/hike...Price?? 3 $Thousand$ US Dollars minimum. Or yeah, $sell$ that unused kidney..that'll work too I guess. emailme ( thsteinman at geemail dot com.)
