Jet Star Airlines

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

We took Jet Star from Cairns to Darwin. We purchased two tickets almost a year ago which appeared to be a fair price. When we got to the counter, we were told we had to pay US$160 extra because we had purchased the "Lite Fare" and it did not cover our baggage. We asked if we could carry the little one onboard and was told NO because we were travelling together. What a ripoff! I am writing this to let everyone know who might be travelling with Jet Star. Beware!

Well a lot of people in the US and Europe have supported these cheap, low cost carriers. so they really have no room to complain. Maybe if these people would have supported the regular carriers they'd still have cabin service.

Maybe the OP should have read the information about Lite Fares - it states quite clearly "Carry On Bags Only". And read the Fare Rules
>This fare does not include any Checked Baggage Allowance. Cabin Baggage limits will be strictly applied.
>Pre-departure, if you have more Baggage than the applicable Cabin Baggage Allowance, you will need to choose a JetSaver fare.
>Conditions and Charges will apply if you change from a JetSaver Light to a JetSaver fare after you make your Booking. Call Jetstar Reservations for more details.
>All JetSaver fare rules also apply to JetSaver Light.

Right next to Lite Fares is "Jetsaver" which clearly states "Carry On + 20kg
Checked Bags". You chose the (cheapest) wrong fare sunshine - your fault not the airlines.

I notice the OP's profile shows 3 posts - two of them complaining about Australian airlines From reading both her so-called complaints, she needs to learn to read the information. Very incompetant otherwise.

2

OP is a moron. Learn to read.

3

Hmm, tough crowd.

4

not really. OP bought a cheap flight. Cheap flights come with conditions. In this case, limit on baggage. No,one to blame but herself.

5

mind you US$160 is a lot for extra baggage though when the usual increase is about $10 for 20kg predeparture from memory, hard lesson to learn unfortunately

6

I agree with Bob.The OP is indeed a moron.

Firstly for not reading the conditions, secondly for expecting anything less of a budget airline and lastly for posting this on the wrong branch.

Budget airlines are cheap for a reason. They are NO FRILLS. Anything extyra is charged for

7

BTW Thurston, I think that the $160 extra was for the whole family, whilst the "$10 for 20kg" might be for one passenger (though certainly not on any Australian budget flight)

8

Lastly, Tiger in Australia have just announced rthat they will start chrging for airport checkin - good on them i say. Online checkin is smoother and quicker anyway.

9

seems you got caught twice OP, once with the ticket surprise and then again with the travel experts in this room, sorry about that on both counts, anyways hope it didn't spoil the rest of your stay in Oz.

10

seems you got caught twice OP, once with the ticket surprise and then again with the travel experts in this room, sorry about that on both counts,

The OP did not get caught by surprise - OP bought a fare for carry on luggage only. No surprise, merely stupidity.

You do not have to be a travel expert Thurston to know that. What did the OP (or you) expect? Tea and sympathy and poor little you? Grow up.

Airlines do not permit passengers to take carry on board luggage if it is over the weight limit.

11

Grow up? Har! I'm laffing at you, beside you and near you. I love it when silly people bite!

12

Before you call anyone stupid or moron, you should get the facts first.
I am not opposed to paying for baggage that weighed 18 kgs, I am just opposed to paying that much which was outrageous. Further more, the so called lite fare was approx $450 for a two hour flight. I am travelling today with Quantas from Alice Springs to Sydney for $500 almost a 3 hour flight with bags included.

13

$450 for a two hour flight. I am travelling today with Quantas from Alice Springs to Sydney for $500 almost a 3 hour flight with bags included.

And I'm travelling from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur for $147 - an 8 hour flight with bags included.

14

I'm wondering how this post got onto the Pacific Islands branch, as Jetstar doesn't even fly there. However, CC it is good to see you here. Are you planning islands travel any time soon?

15

tuff crowd drostem, dont let a few folks opinions bother you, youre on holidays so just enjoy yourself, cheers,

16

Hi Ozzie, how are you? Not going to the islands but am heading to SEA again. To answer your question, I too thought it odd to have a Jetstar whinge on this branch because as you said, Jetstar don't even fly there. The OP complained more than once - on the Oz branch and on here. I'll PM you to catch up.

17

One day I'll get you to the islands, CC.
I'm heading to Sydney by car tomorrow, though.

18

Thank you.

On Saturday we flew with Quantas from Alice Springs to Sydney (2 hours 40 mins).
We were very pleased with our flight. We were given exit row seats, husband is 6' 8".
We were served ham & cheese sandwiches; drinks and snacks. We also got our bags checked for free. All of this for less than the airfare paid to Jetstar flying from Cairns to Darwin (2 hour flight).

Of interest, is that in the Sunday Telegraph in the travel section on low cost carriers Jetstar was mentioned as an airline that should be "cautiously evaluated" as they can cost higher than traditional airlines (what a coincidence). Unfortunately when they are a monopoly on certain routes, you are out of luck. As I said, we were willing to pay $25-$45 for the baggage but not $160. This is highway robbery.

19

I'm afraid the OP was given short thrift on her other thread too. I am still not sure why she posted this here given the fact that Jetstar don't fly to the islands.

20

glutton for punishment I expect. Some people are like that.
