Kavieng and New Ireland

Hi all,
I'm heading over to Kavieng and New Ireland Province for six weeks in August/September of the this year. I'll mainly be over there for a medical elective to the local hospital in Kavieng but obviously on the side i'll be doing a lot of side trips!

So for anyone who's been there before. What are the not to be missed experiences? Lelet highlands, Tabar Islands? or riding down the highway? Anything else?

Thanks again for all the help and all the previous information on the forum. Its been amazingly helpful!

I loved the Tabar Islands (and New Ireland in general) - one of my favourite spots in the Pacific!
OTOH, I found the east coast highway itself a bit dull.
Kavieng is a lovely town, too - good choice.
