Labour strikes - New Caledonia not recommended

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

There is a Civil Aviation strike in New Caledonia at the moment, delaying flights by more than 30 hours. Apparently such strikes are common there.

Until the labour stability issues are dealt with, New Caledonia is not a great place to go.

Our A$2400 trip has been brutally cut down from 5 days to 3 days thanks to this (we can't get into the country). At $800 a day, this place is NOT a value destination. Needless to say our plans have been completely ruined. Until Labour stability there is resolved my recommendation is to skip New Caledonia entirely and travel to another, more stable country/colony that will not screw you over, leaving you with the immense hassle of battling with the travel insurance company for recompensation.
