Landing in Nuku'alofa at midnight

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hey all
I will be landing in Nukualofa at midnight on a Pacific Blue flight, can anyone advise a hotel close to the airport/or the best way to get to a hotel in that area?

Thanks!

Hi John

Suppose it depends on how long you intend staying on Tongatapu. We are on the same PacificBlue flight in August but then flying out early the next morning up to Vava'u. Therefore we wanted something that was cheap and close to the airport as we would only be there for a few hours. We booked have booked a room at the Fua’amotu Transit Lodge which is apparently only 5 mins from the airport and they arrange for you to be picked up and dropped back again.

If you are staying longer on Tongatapu then perhaps a place in Nuku'alofa might be more appropriate and I am sure that others can provide recommendations.

There is a shuttle bus that takes one into town, ends up at the Dateline Hotel, hits other places on the way.
But wherever you'll be staying can arrange a transfer, either on that bus, or if it's a small place they might be able to pick you up for a fee. There's a good chance others on your flgiht might also be staying at the same place. so I'd check with the owners to see about them transferring you, or at least arranging that bus transfer. It's also a way to make sure they are awale to check you in, especially if it's a small place without 24 hour staff!

It's about 40 minutes into Nuku'alofa.

Good to see that budget place near the airport posted in #1's reply. The only place in the works a couple of yrs ago was a large hotel, I think it was owned by the prince's family. It was being built back then, I think it's finished now. But I wouldn't really want to stay there more than a night, not much there in that area except the airport.

I can wholeheartedly recommend that aforementioned http://www.tongaholiday.com/?page_id=380</a>

Not only is it cozy friendly well run and handy it's close to the highest point on Tongatapu and the King's Summer Palace.

Great meals as well.
