Hello, I've finally decided to hit Micronesia as my next destination for diving. I've read on several websites that a US citizen doesn't have to have a visa to stay there for one year. Is that info correct? I've checked with the embassy, but I guess I'm a little worried that something will go wrong. Thanks, A
My husband and I have dived Palau (twice), Yap, Bikini and have never needed a visa (we are US citizens). If I'm not mistaken, Palau is a US protectorate. The only place we've needed a visa in advance in the Pacific is Australia. Even PNG issues them upon arrival. Have fun! | 1
No- Palau became independent in 1994- if is officially The Republic of Palau. We (the USA) certainly have a special relationship with it- Palauans are allowed to come to the US and work with no visas. You would need a visa to work but I don't remember needing one just to visit. And even if you needed one you could get it at the border if you are from most places. And the embassy is pretty accurate- why are you worried? You will have a wonderful time. | 2
