Looking for advice arranging mt wilhelm climb

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I will be travelling with my dad May 2013 to the Sing Sing in Mt Hagen. After the festival, i want to trek Mt Wilhelm, while my dad goes scuba diving.
Any suggestions on how best to get from Mt Hagen to mt wilhelm? do you have to go all the way back to goroka to arrange, or can you go directly to kundiawa or kegsugi? For single woman travelling alone, do you need a guide the whole way? Is there a way to meet up with others doing the trek at the same time to have a bit more "safety in numbers?" Or is that not necessary.
i have heard it is best to have local guides thru each village/region, so do you have to arrange new guides each day?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely no need to go to Goroka, just go via Kundiawa.
You do need a guide unless you are a very experienced hiker, and you can get one in Kegsegul.
Meeting other tourists is a hit or miss, but chances should be higher after the show in Hagen.
There are no villages uphill from Kegsegul, so no need (or even chance) to change guides.
