Looking for Luxury in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I am planning a honeymoon in Fiji for March/April 07'. I desperately need some first hand advice. I was considering five days at yasawa island resort and then five more at Vatulele resort. My biggest concern with vatulele is no air conditioning in bure and weather. I have a budget of about $15k Could anyone out there give me any first hand advice or maybe suggest a different location?

Sorry, I can't help with luxury places in Fiji, but I would suggest you check out www.tripadvisor.com and have a look at the reviews posted there. Again, I have never looked in that area myself, but I would think places like Vatulele have been reviewed by someone. They also have a message board so you could try posting there. Hope this helps.

Hi
You're in luck.I've stayed in both including the Point at Vatulele and also Vomo which is no where near the same class or natural setting as Vatulele or Yasawa.
Vatulele is all class.Beautiful long white beach, lovely protected swimming ,perfectly manicured grounds and excellent service.Only drawbacks are no pool and a communal type long table for dinner with the staff and other guests, so specify a separate table, also don't be shy to ask for a table to be set up on the beach and let them know its a honeymoon, you never know you may get a night in the grand bure or the point.Your room is almost on the beach and well appointed in rustic beach barefoot luxury way. Also veuve cliquot champaign is/was on "tap " and included as much as you drink.Food is excellent and you can specify ahead for particular food and the chef will accomodate eg " I'd like Lobster medallions with and Champaign sauce" type of service quality.Try and get a Bure not too far down beach from restaurant /reception as it takes a while for the staff to see your coconut signal you place on the beach in front of your Bure for service ( no phone). I've stayed in Aman and Sila Evason Hideaway resorts and Vatulele is right up there given its on a beach in the middle of nowhere.

Yasawa Island resort is not quite to Valulele's standard but still very, very good and has a pool. The trip we took was Yasawa first and then Vatulele and it worked well.We went in April and the weather was a bit cloudy but cleared up, so the later the better. Its luck of the draw and at least the resorts are in completely different areas so hopefully if there are winds at one the other should be ok.I would definitely go back to both resorts.

My advice is to try and time your international flight to arrive in the morning so you can fly straight to Yasawa without wasting a night at the sheraton or other fill in hotel. The flight from yasawa to vatulele is quite long but Vatulele is not far from Nadi international for your return flight to home.
About the aircon - it was hot and humid at night but its 27c not 37c , so you should be fine especially if you go there second and have acclimatised- Good luck
