Looking for travel partner to PNG

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I recently returned from a trip in PNG that took me through the Gulf and Morobe province by foot, and through all the highland provinces by PMV, and i'm already planning my return to this incredible country. Next year, i plan to leave the US en route to PNG on December 27th and will likely stay between two and three months. this trip, i will be poking my head around the western and gulf province originating from the town of Bosavi just at the base of Mt. Bosavi (southern tip of Southern Highlands Province). Once the jungles and cultures are satisfyingly explored, i plan to fly to Lake Kopiago (end of the road past tari in the southern highlands) and walk to the village of Hotmin in the East Sepik Province, via telefomin and oksapmin. from Hotmin, it is Sepik River bound (via May River) in a traditional dugout canoe for a voyage that will take me to the sea.

i was able, this past trip, to establish many contacts in PNG and currently have a multitude of PNG natives that are expecting my return in 2009. this trip may seem ambitious and indeed it will be busy, it is in no way impossible to accomplish. contact me for more details.

Sounds like an amazing trip.

Just one small thing... PNG people prefer the term 'National' as opposed to calling them natives.

indeed you are correct, for convenience though i refered to them as native so as not to confuse a true national with an expat national. my travels in PNG left me questioning my patriotism back here in America due to the incredible graciousness, kindness, generosity and hospitality i experienced. i did not wish to sound condescending or patronizing because nothing could be further from the truth. thanks for clarifying
