LP guidebooks ( paperversion ) - Uppdates

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

According to an email I got from LP regarding new paper editions of LP guide books, there won't be another edition of the paperversion guidebook about Samoa / Tonga. They regard it as non economical. So it seems that the 2006 edition of the Samoa / Tonga paper edition is the last one. Samoa and Tonga will now only be presented in the South Pacific edition of the paper version, which ofcourse mean that it will be less information.

Same goes for the paperversion of the guidebook from the Cook islands

Go figure... Sucks if you ask me.

Yep. LP is ruining what used to make it good. Their recent crappiness is going to make room for some competition though....

1

The net has hit travel books hard who wants years old info when it's available @ one's fingertips in real time?

I will just carry the old editions from the times when LP was still good.
They contain LOTS of info that would be hard or impossible to gather from the net.
The positive aspect of this is that more limited info will keep more places untouristed - great for those wishing to get off the beaten track, far less great for locals trying to run bungalows or whatever in such places, I think.

Wondering what will happen to the 2 guides to the 4 Melanesian countries... which I would think receive fewer tourists than the 3 Polynesian countries concerned.
