Marquesas Island camping

Hi all,

I've been looking around for accommodation in the Marquesas and they all seem to be very expensive for me. I wanted to ask if anyone here have had experience camping or seen others camp on these islands?

I have read about camping in the other more popular islands in French Polynesia so I know some people do it, but they just didn't seem to have ventured to Marquesas islands and there is pretty much zero information on this topic on the web.

I wanted to know if local people there will be okay with someone camping along the beach or river or will they be hostile towards that. I also wondered if locals would be willing to host me to set up camp in their back yard if I paid them something for it in return.

The islands I had on my list are: Nuku Hiva, Ua Pou, Hiva Oa and Fatu Hiva.
