Marshall Island Accomodations

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hello,

I have never been to the Marshall Islands but on May 17th I will be there for my first time. I will be arriving in Majuro.I have a couple of questions. Do they have public transport (buses)? Further, do they have any budget acommodations (i.e. backpacker hostels) and approximately how much do they cost.

Sincerely, Barry Kowal

Does anyone have any information?

Well.......I for one know of nobody who has gone to the Marshalls by choice. What led to this choice? I have been on the ground there but have NO answers for you, and don't remember many posts about the Marshalls. I believe that there is a Sandles Resort there but other than that....???

I know only one person who visited the Marshalls by choice, and that one told me I should make it my last choice in the Pacific.
He is David Stanley, BTW.

ASFAIK Majuro has no budget accomodation, though the outer islands do have cheaper guesthouses.

The last (now out of print) edition of LP Micronesia would still be the best source of info on the Marshalls, I believe.

Land Transportation
Taxi
Taxi's are a cheap way to travel around Majuro, with prices ranging from $.50 to $20.00 depending on distance.

Here in the islands, we use a ride-sharing taxi system, which means that you can stop a taxi already carrying passengers.

BE AWARE: There are no current regulations for Taxi prices on Majuro.

Shuttle Bus
For $2.50 each way, you can hop on board the island-wide shuttle bus service, departing every other hour from the RRE Parking Lot.

I was considering visiting it. After all some people say don't go to French Polynesia and it's paradise. But then I read a blog of an American woman teaching there. She said that not only do they have to wear Mother Hubbards but also a slip beneath it so that any light shining through the dress won't show the outline of their legs.
