Merry Christmas

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

To all the islanders and island lovers- on island or wishing that they were- Have a wonderful Christmas and a new year with tropical dreams, and maybe tropical waters and sands.

Cheers all!

Merry Christmas, Waldos, and all the other regulars.
I am sort of glad I chose last Christmas to spend a month in the Solomons, as this summer promises to be a lot wetter.
Meanwhile we sang a Solomon Pijin Christmas carol in our Australian church this Christmas morning.

Oh lovely Ozzie- Must be boxing day by now- Cheers and do wonder where everyone else is?

2

Merry Christmas olgeta!!

Ozzie, John Blyth will be in Solomons for 4 months next year, but not sure when exactly, so if you get back there and bump into him please say "hi" from me, as well as to Terry Brown and the Vunagis, should you bump into them as well.

I had an interesting email from someone in Canada this morning

" Do you have a room available for one around Jan 08?"

I replied saying it was a private home in Australia. Turns out someone gave them my email to book a room in the Solomons, but the original email was so uninformative, I had no idea what they meant.
I have now replied asking where in the Solomons. I do not actually book rooms for anyione, just put them in touch with a family who have a home stay!

Any idea who these people are?

4

Nope, absolutely no idea at all ...

5

no idea from here- but a room in Australia sounds nice!

Waldos, I am 2-3 hours south of Brisbane, and have a spare room, if you are back in this direction. (I am expecting a Solomon Islander briefly next week).
I have now had several exchanges with this Canadian - I am wondering who gave him my email, or if he got it from the Exploring Solomons website.

That must be almost in Sydney. We spent a week in Brisbane several years back- I had a talk to give and my kids had relatives who took us all around. My son wants to go to school in Australia- a long trip home for the weekend for sure.

8

Sorry Waldos, Australia is much bigger than that. It is another 8 hours driving time from here to Sydney.
It is just possible to drive Sydney to Brisbane in one day, but I always take 2, as I am unsually on my own, or have a passenger that doesn't drive.
I'm 30 minutes or so inland from Byron Bay.

Oh. Now that you bring it up- memory is not serving me well. We took the train and it did take quite some time. I do remember flying in from LA and immediately changing airports and flying up to Cairnes. And that took a long time, especially for those who had already crossed the Pacific.

Well- Happy New Year anyway- perhaps we'll get back down under someday soon- want to visit the South Pacific islands and also New Zealand. And since we will be there we'll come back to Australia. Cheers-

Happy New Year everyone ... may 2011 be everything you wish for.
