Multi-Day Sea Kayaking in MooreaCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
I have heard tell of a seven-day sea kayak trip that circumvents the island of Moorea. I am wondering if anyone knows if this is possible to do by renting sea kayaks and camping on public beaches or other discrete locations. Any thoughts?
No camping on public beaches and no discrete locations on Moorea. Why not try another island and speak to the owners of the land and the motus before you head out. Edited by: NukuHiva2 | 1
NukuHiva2- Thanks for the information. Is there another island you would suggest for such an excursion? | 2
If you had your own expedition kayak then Tikehau would be perfect. The only kayaks that I've seen around FP are the resort fun boats. You might consider staying at the dorm at Te Motu Iti and using their free, for guests, kayaks during the day for exploring. Palau is the place for a long kayak and camping trip. Sivanocat - I think you're probably right, we should probably just split our time b/n Motu Iti and Camping Nelson and take day trips out on the kayaks. Too bad it isn't more set up for sea kayaking excursions, the reef protection makes it such a great place for that. If you're ever stateside, the everglades are a beautiful place to kayak and camp. We did an excursion in 10,000 islands last November and it was incredible. | 4
When I was camping all alone in Palau I would ponder under what circumstances I would do that back home in the States. My conclusion was that even if I had dogs and guns it still would be too risky. Didn't even consider gators, water mocassins and pet pythons (and whatever else is breeding in the swamp). | 5
Laughing now. Actually, the 10,000 island region is all saltwater (thus, dolphins and manatees, but no gators or pythons). I agree that swamp camping does not sound very nice at all! | 6
