Hello fellow travelers... My husband and I recently booked a trip to the Nakia Resort and Dive in Fiji, it is described on page 203 in the 2009 publication of Lonely Planet, Fiji. We are in Hawaii now, we are scuba instructors. We live on the Lake in Tahoe and teach scuba diving there in the summer. In the winter, we prefer to travel and visits unusual dive locations in the Asia-Pacific region. We found a description of the Nakia Resort and Dive in the Lonely Planet and made reservations in October, 2010. We paid Nakia in full as of Dec. 24, almost $4,0000 for 8 days plus some diving for 2 of us. Our flights were changed on Feb. 16, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m, therefore we had to cancel the last night at Nakia and spend the 15th night in Nadi for the morning flight. The owner of the Nakia Resort, Jim, informed us that we were withing our 45 day cancellation period (Dec. 25 contact) and that he would have to get the communication from our airline so he could go to the airline for reimbursement of Feb. 15ths' fees. I told him that we were informed by phone and that I could not forward him anything and that we were within our 45 day cancellation as I called him on Dec. 25--6 days in Dec., 31 in Jan plus 8 equals 45 from the date of booking. He says this is 43 days. Jim descided to take an attitude that he did not want us at all and told us not to come. He also informed us that he has his JD degree, is a Santa Cruz resident, can come after us for any libelous statements..on and on and on..in effect he is a Fiji dive resort owner who is also a lawyer waiting to pounce. I am happy to forward anyone the chain of communication--this guy is strange. So we cancelled our trip and booked with another very nice person who said she knew about "Jim". Strongly suggest you avoid our experience with Nakia. Lonely Planet needs to revise their comments, we are not the only ones who have had issues with Nakia. Wendy Wood
Have you no cancellation insurance? Did you think your vaunted experience would protect you from the vagaries of the Real Travel World? Your certainly come across as self righteous and full of yourself. "He says this is 43 days." He's on the other side of the International Date Line-I have seen this argument elsewhere on the net. | 1
