Nana nu i ra family trip report

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

well we are just back from 9 days on nana nu i ra staying at The Bungalows (www.bungalowsfiji.com). My wife, 2 kids (9 and 12) and myself. 2.5 hrs drive by taxi from Nadi ($FJ140) to Ellington wharf, a stop off for drink supplies and a 20 min boat trip. We stayed at a private resort consisting of 5 bungalows owned by an Aust couple. We were the only people there and had 5 staff at out disposal. We ate lobster 2 nights, fish a couple of nights, the best curry I have ever had and various others. The place more than met our expectations and at around $AUS 300 per night including all meals, represented great value for quality accommodation for a family. This place would be ideal for 3 or 4 families wishing to stay together in relative privacy. Staff were fantastic and we had a great time. By no means an active holiday. There are kayaks, windsurfers at no charge and fishing trips are just $FJ150 per half day but there is no kids clubs etc. If your kids are like ours and happy to just snorkel, read a book, play some beach footy, go for wlks etc. they will be more than happy. Our kids rated it the best Hol they have ever had. The coral straight off any of the beaches is fantastic and a half hour walk will see you on a mile of sand wih no one else in sight.

I have read a few rumours on ownership of the island etc. on different blogs so I might put some rumours straight. The Hilton have bought 75% of the Island and intend building time share apartments and a hotel as well as a big marina. At this stage there have been a couple of roads graded and nothing else. Don't know how long til it gets underway. The Nana nu beach resort has closed for renovations (apparently upgrading to 5 star). There are aound 10 accomodation options on the islan of varying quality (currently the bungalows is the best standard) and price. Some places seem very hard to get info on.

Thanks for that. We want to go to Nana nu i ra next time so good to hear about it. Sounds like a good place to go soon before the developers step in.
