New Caledonia honeymoon - suggestions?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

We are thinking on going to New Caledonia in February on our honeymoon. We have 6 nights to spend, but our budget is limited and I need some suggestions. Another option that we're looking is Cook Islands, but we are New Zealanders and the Cook Islands are one of the most common places people go to from here, but since it is much cheaper to get to there it is still our option.

We could use some suggestions of where to go and where to stay in NC. (I'm canning our travel agent, she was of no help).

For accommodation in NC I would like to average under 19,500 XPF (or 165 Euros if that's easier to understand) per night over the trip. But still we can't really go backpackers - need some minimum level of quality as it is a honeymoon. Would love to go to the Isle of Pines, but a bit worried about accommodation there - seems quite expensive from what I've looked at already.

New Caledonia & Isle of Pines are my most favourite places in the world, but for a honeymoon of just 6 days I think you would get a bigger bang (pardon the pun) for your bucks in the Cook Islands. In my opinion it takes more than 6 days to learn to love NC.

If I were you I would use the money you save on getting to the Cook Islands (from NZ) & currency exchange & spend just a little more on accommodation in the Cooks & have a wonderful 6 days.

I would also recommend the Isle of Pines without hesitation!
And I'd say 6 days is perfectly enough on that small island.

I haven't been to the Cooks, but can't imagine it would offer the same singular beauty or exotic mix of cultures - not to mention food!

I also agree with the Isles of Pines.6 days is plenty. It's a little island a ferry ride from Noumea and is exquisite. Mind you, Ive never been to the Cooks, so cant compare
