| rurounimike13:57 UTC23 May 2012 | Hi all,
My partner and I are looking for a relaxed holiday with a combination of cultural experiences, beach time, impressive views, good food (vegetarian if possible), and general relaxation. Based on the thorn tree posts I've read, I've started to put together a rough itinerary for a potential trip to New Caledonia in November.
I'm thinking a few days in Noumea, a few days in North-East Grand Terre and a few days in Ile des pins.
So, the plan would be something like:
3 nights in Noumea (Le tour de monde B'n'B or somewhere in the city) 1 night on way to Hienghene 2 nights in Hienghene (Kouloe Village) 1 night in Noumea (city hotel) 3 nights in Ile des pins (Kou Bagny) 1 night in Noumea (city hotel)
Questions:
-
Given the frequency and reliability of transport to/from Ile des pins I've assumed its best to stay in Noumea either side of travelling to/from Ile des pins and prior to flying out to Australia. Is this necessary? What's the reliability of Betico in November likely to be?
-
Would it be better driving straight to Hienghene and using that as a base to explore the north-east or are there interesting villages to stop at along the way and break up the drive?
-
Should I spend more time on Ile Des Pins and less in Noumea/Grand Terre?
-
I've noticed most car rentals have manual cars. Its been 10 years since I drove manual, so would prefer not to have to deal with learning to drive on different side of road and manual....
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Cheers!

I think the Betico is quite reliable.

Hienghiene is probably the best base for the North-East indeed. The west coast is dull in comparision.

I personally found the Grande terre FAR more interesting than tiny IdP.
