New Caledonia - on a budget

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi therre, I am thinking of taking my hubby on a surprsie trip to New Caledonia, there is great special for $600each for 4 nights at the NC LE PACIFIQUE, which looks great, we just want to have a few days away to go the beach and blob. Althought the trip is cheap, can anyone give me a rough indication what food will cost....on the cheaper scale...I was sort of hoping about $50 a day for food for both....if we can....we are on real tight budget, but could really do with 4 days in the sun....thanks for your help.

The special is great value and you should grab it .

Food prices are , in spite of other TTers, about on a par with Australia, so not cheap, but not silly either.
To reduce costs, make use of the great supermarkets (stocking reasonably priced Australian, NZ and especially French goods). Also, have breakfast at the little cafe at the market by the Port, get lunch (foot long filled baguettes) at one of the many sandwichbars round town. Youll love dinner at a cafe/restaurant on Baie de Citrone and/or AnseVata (the main beaches)

To answer the direct question, yes, $50 per day for both (assume not each) is possible (but $70 is better), if you do what is suggested re breakfast/lunch.
