New Year's in the Pacific

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I'm looking to spend New Year's in the Pacific again this year after ringing in 2011 from Fiji and spending three fantastic weeks there.

In the spirit of being adventurous I'm looking for somewhere new for this year. Not interested in doing it in Australia or New Zealand, so just looking for a place that'll have a good party for the main event and then plenty to occupy me for a week or two afterwards.

Aaaaand, as always, it can't break the bank.

Also open to SE Asia if anybody has a really good suggestion. Aside from the obvious vote for Thailand :-p

If you rule out Thailand, Bali or the Gili Islands in Indonesia should also offer more partying than pretty much anywhere in the South Pacific.
And then a choice of ca 17.000 other islands to move on to within the same country to occupy you for the next week or two.

Fiji is probably the most partyish place in the Pacific Islands so it would be hard to match it in that region.

Thanks for the tip. I'd given Bali some pretty serious thought. I'm not adverse to returning to Fiji, there's a lot for me to still see there, but I might give Bali a whirl.
