So I can't help but notice there's not a whole lot of information out there on these particular islands. Can anybody shed some light on why that might be? I'm a kiteboarder and have heard some good things about the wind there but I can't get anything specific. Does anyone know anything about what time of year is windiest there, where there is to stay, that sort of thing? Any information'd be useful at this point.
I'm researching this area from a sailing view point. Recently flew Continental ‘Island Hopper’ through every Micronesian country, quite strange to land in Guam and see high rise and traffic, good shopping, lots of Japanese tourists and a big US military presence. You have to get to the Marianas via Guam. Google threw up details for ‘kite boarding Guam', expect cliffs/narrow beaches for landing, wear reef booties, take Betadine! Doubt if there is anything in the Marianas Most of the islands are volcanic, difficult to access and uninhabited, doesn’t look as if many yachts visit. Weather: The climate is tropical marine, warm and humid with little seasonal variation. January-April NE trades blow. July- November rainy and stormy and typhoons can occur. Mean high temperature is 86°F (30 °C) and mean low is 76°F (24 °C) with an average annual rainfall of 86 inches (2,180 mm). The dry season runs from December -June. The highest risk of typhoons is during October and November, best for kiting November-April. Good luck | 1
The area is most known for diving. These other sports are less common, and hence, less said about them. Like surfing in Palau- until a couple of years ago it was unheard of. So I can't say anything at all about kiteboarding. don't even know what it is, if truth be known. | 2
