Octopus Resort,or other suggestions

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Thinking about staying at Octopus Resort in early November for 6 to 7 nights. Would appreciate any recent feedback on the resort or suggestions for similar destination.(With meal package and accomodation we have been quoted around AUD $240 (per night) for 2 for a/c beachfrontroom + meals $44 per person - so looking at that price range.) Not interested in big resorts, looking for something on a smaller scale, like the idea of inclusive meal package. We are a couple in ealy 50's -just want to relax and destress and enjoy some food and drink and a good beach, enjoy snorkelling and fishing. If we goto Ocotopus, due to our flights have to stay in Nadi for a night so would also welcome any suggestions for a hotel for the night. We are not into backpacking so just need something mid range.for arrival and depatuire nights. Would prefer not to stay in Nadi from what I have read but impossible to align the moons with transfer to the Yasawas. Was aslo wondering how much it would be to fly to Ocotopus with Turtle airways, by time we add up transfers and motels don't know how much more expensive it would be! Looking forward to some advice.

Octopus is nice. It's one of the biggest and most developed resorts in the islands.
6-7 days there (or anywhere) would be too much for me, so I'd split it up with somewhere else. Blue Lagoon is newer, smaller, and nicer overall, although quite similar. Good mix of all types of travelers at both of those. Nanuya Island also gets very good reviews, but is more of a couples resort.

You'd have the inquire directly with Turtle and/or Octopus to find out how much they'd charge for an air transfer, but it'll cost more than taking the ferry.
Bluewater Lodge is a nice place in Nadi to stay. It's technically a hostel, but it's more like a B&B in terms of atmosphere. Raffles Gateway also often gets mentioned as a good place to stay in Nadi (just across from the airport).

I would say Octopus would be perfect for you - we stayed 5 nights and wished we had stayed longer. It is a great place to relax with just enough activities to take part in if you so desire. Octopus has its own boat - maybe their schedule might work with your flights, but we found the Flyer to be more comfortable to travel on. I would also recommend Raffles Gateway Hotel as a great spot to spend a night.

I'm just back from Fiji and I stayed in several different resorts out there, this included Octopus Resort, but the best resort to relax in is by far the Blue Lagoon Resort. It is the sister resort of Octopus but it is only open a mere 18 months. The staff BL are so much more friendly than at Oct, i think the food is also a lot better up in BL with a bigger choice and variety in what you can have. Breakfast is a buffet style with juices, pancakes, scones, cereals, you name it they have it, then Lunch is from an al a carte menu of about 15 options of burgers, curry etc etc and diner is usually themed ie curry nite, tapas nite etc. food is amazing.

Also the snorkeling on BL is one of the best spots out there. The reef is literally on your doorstep, with octopus, reef sharks, tiger fish, clown fish, squid and so much more out there. Plus its in a sheltered bay which makes it amazing.

All in all i would highly recommend the Beachfront Villa at Blue Lagoon. Simply stunning. you will understand when you sit on your deck watching the sun going down.
