One stop on way to Australia

I have a ticket to Australia and have one stop en route from VAncouver. Where should I stop?Some people say Figi. Others say NZ? Anywhere else? I only have 6 weeks total for my entire trip so it would only be a week or so there and the rest in Australia. Helpful suggestions?

Fiji, its a bit different from oz and nz is pretty much the same.

Have you thought of Hawaii? I stopped there on my way to Australia from Ohio.

I'd pick Fiji, much different than aust as mentioned above. NZ is similar, though some differences of course, but fiji is another world.

Hawaii---well, you can always visit that from Vancouver relatively easily.

Just to confuse you further, I'd pick New Zealand.
I found it very different from AU, very beautiful, and overall it offers much more to see than Fiji.

OTOH, NZ could also be a cheap side-trip from AU on a Virgin ticket, so if you want to get value out of your stopover, Fiji is the one.
