One week in November in: Fiji, Tonga, Samoa or Cook?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Arriving early November in Auckland for several month holiday with two small kids, we would like to spend first a week on a tropical destination, as it is relatively close. Which destination or beachresort would you recommend, not forgetting the weather situation! Budget till 1500 US $. Thanks for your help!
Just because no one else has replied yet: Even though I haven't been there yet, I am pretty sure that the Cooks would be the best destination with small kids as far as general health issues are concerned. After all, they are still (sort of) run by New Zealand, while the other three countries are rather poor independant ones. Having said that, of course you could find good hotels with facilities suitable for kids on any of the four, with Fiji probably offering the greatest variety, simply because it is the most visited destination. I am pretty sure that some Fijian hotels would specifically cater to families with Kids' Club and the like, but as I have never needed this, you'd have to search the net, or a guidebook, or wait for advice from someone else to find out which ones these are. Otherwise, the local people (as opposed to resorts!) seem very child-tolerant throughout the South Pacific, far more so than in most Western countries, I'd say. Your budget could be enough for any of the four. | 1
