Papeete inquiry

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

We have an overnight stop in Papeete in a couple of months. Onward flight leaves 9pm so we have a full day for sightseeing. Was keen on the Gaughin museum but I see it's on the other side of the island - we're there on a Sunday so does anyone know if buses operate Sundays? Otherwise how can we get there - I gather taxis are prohibitively expensive.
Also, does anyone know if there are showers available at Faa'a airport? Daughter would like to spend the arvo on the beach but I don't fancy flying on to New York with sand in my hair.
Merci

The museum is not worth the trip, but....the drive is very nice.

Don't take a bus - if there is any. We got stuck out there and hitchhiked back, thank goodness that the locals are willing to take stranded strangers in their car.

Thanks guys, we'll probably give the museum a miss, looks like we can easily fill in the day in Papeete. Do any of you know if there are showers at the airport?

No showers are available at the Tahiti airport. :-(

If you can afford it, rent a car for the day. The museum is roughly half way around the island, so a good stop for lunch, etc.
Also, you will need a place to keep your stuff, unless you pay for a whole extra night for that evening flight.

I don't think the bus goes that far on Sundays.
