Papua New Guinea

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi!

Come this summer me and my girlfriend are thinking about going to PNG. We've been travelling quite a lot together and learned that it what works best for us if simply chose a few select stops and stay for a while. So far, what we want to do is:

  1. Go to Raja Ampat.

  2. Do some volunteer oriented work, preferably in conservation.

I'd like to hear from all you experienced folks to maybe get some ideas on how to get the most out of Raja ampat on a tight budget (maybe 60-70 dollars per day) and even if there might be other places we could go that are cooler. I'd also very much appreciate any ideas on how to do the volunteering.

Thanks a bunch!

Jonas

What you are talking about is not PNG, but (Indonesian) Papua!

You can find lots of Raja Ampat info on the RA link in my signo lines.
You can certainly visit it on your budget, though you will not tour it extensively.

No ideas about volunteering.

Thanks! I should clarify - the volunteering could be done either on papua or PNG. preferably PNG.
The idea is also not to tour it extensively, but find a few places to visit where it's truly worthwhile sticking around.
