Papua New Guinea Safety: Sept-Oct 2011Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi everyone, I am hoping to go to Papua New Guinea at the end of September. However, I have found quite a few safety reports which made me wonder if it is a good time to go. Can anyone fill me in on the current safety situation + crime issues? Is it safe to backpack alone? Or in a couple? Would I have to constantly look over my shoulder every time I go trekking or reading on a beach? I'd really appreciate any current input. Thanks in advance and happy traveling:)
I don't see any reason why the "current safety situation" would be any different from that in the past. So instead of expecting us to repeat past advice, why not check out existing posts on this? | 1
Not sure what has been said in previous posts on TT, but I would need a bit more info on you, what type of travel you want to do, budget and places you would go. I've been to PNG several times and have had an amazing time, but I would never travel outside of work, or alone, unguided. My advice would be to hook up with someone with local knowledge and street savvy. If you are going to go, do it well before the 2012 elections - that could get tense, | 2
