I'm in the final stages of planning my trip to Papua New Guinea. I've booked the Goroka festival and Crocodile initiation ceremony. Slightly worried about travelling on my own, in general it sounds ok. Is this the case?
8th September arrive in PNG 11th approx.
Goroka show.
11th Mt. Hagen 7.00-8.30am PNK 399
12th Sept (Travels hut Guesthouse)
13th Sept Paiya village Afternoon, retire to Kumul lodge bird watching/Magic Mountain lodge(Travelers hut)
14th Sept Goroka – Mindima village/coffee and tea plantations, Mt. Wilhelm hotel in Kundiawa.(?accom)
15th Sept Goroka show ground. Afternoon retire to hotel and continue to McCarthy museum, scenic tour to Asaro village and retire to hotel/lodge.
16th Sept show/hotel and relax. Afternoon take few hours scenic drive and return to hotel and overnight.
Note: Normally show closes at around 12:00noon followed with speeches. –
17th Sept Organised trip finishes PYM to discuss options spend time in same area looking for Birds of paradise, orchids, wildlife (butterflies)

1st October. Wewak - Wewak Hotel ME BOOK IT
2nd October. Pagwi Middle Sepik. downriver to Kanganamun Village. Visit the Spirit House (Haus Tambaran) and sleep at Kanganamun guesthouse.
3rd October. Palembei/Kiminindibit visiting their Haus Tambarans.Sago making, grass skirt weaving and other village activities and endless photographic opportunities. Return to Kanganamun and visit the initiated men in the Spirit House at night, a great experience when you can almost feel the ancestors in the shadows! It may be possible, as an alternative, to go crocodile hunting in the evening with some young men from the village. Sleep at Kanganamun village guesthouse.
4th October. Crocodile Ritual Initiation village location, Middle Sepik. 1-2 hour walk. (Overnight in the guest house or family houses in the village).
5th October. initiation ritual - Haus Tambarans (Overnight village).
6th October. Rainforest/fishing lake/canoes upriver to Pagwi where your bus Wewak (Wewak hotel)
7th October trip finish Wewak ?Yuo Island
8 Tufi or where leatherback turtles but not due to lay until November
