Please don't cancel bookings to Samoa

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

An item on tonight's Australian news indicated that many people booked to travel to Samoa are cancelling in the aftermath of the tsunami.
Apia and resorts in the north of the country are not damaged, and the government is concerned that at a time of great need, they are losing their best source of foreign income.
So if you are booked to go to Samoa, or thinking of going, please go, don't cancel. They need you.

They really do. And as the Samoa Tourist Authority just pointed out (full report):

There still are available:
- 5 out of 7 deluxe hotels
- 5 out of 7 superior resorts
- 22 out of 24 standard hotels
- 27 out of 29 budget hotels
- 9 out of 14 beach fales (overnight stays)
- 8 out of 17 beach fales (day stays)

Sinalei Resort will re-open November 1st, Taufua Beach Fales vows to be back in one year.

Beaches in Lefaga (Matareva, Return to Paradise) are open again!

Also the Island of Savaii is all fine! I was there when it all hit and the Island is untouched. There are reports saying that the south coast was hit but it was no worse that a little water pushing debris across the road and a few overwater balconies being damaged. They were actaully fixed the next day.
get yourself over there! I actually thought the Island of Savaii was a more relaxed place to be and great snorkelling just off the beaches in many places on the east coast.
Check out Siufaga Beach Resort. They were fantastic through the whole event and the palce is great and not too pricey!

#2 Me too. I always thought Aggie Grey's would be rather romantic after reading her story. However, as I am already going to Solomon Islands and Europe in the next 12 months, I may not get there until after Taufua re-opens. They were interviewed on Australian TV.
