PNG and diving

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I have posted this also on the diving section..I’ve read Kira Salaks account of visiting PNG many years ago. Diving and visiting the area is something I’d like to do if not this American winter, sometime in the future. Would anyone think it’s safer now ? (No Rascals, etc.). Is there a dive organization that’s recommended? I guess in the past dive boats have been attacked. I use the app for weekly newspaper. “The National”. In an attempt to keep up. Thanks

There are still rascals but diving areas tend to be safe.
If diving is your main aim though, you might find visiting the Raja Ampat Islands of neighboring Indonesian Papua better. It's about the best diving anywhere, and perfectly safe, plus cheaper than PNG.
