PNG to Australia without flyingCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hello everyone, I am currently living in China and planning to move to Australia next March. Since I have two "vacancy" months between my current job in China and the start of my new life in Australia, I am organising a trip through SE Asia by land. The only difficult point seems to be crossing the sea between Papua / PNG to Australia (anywhere in Aus would be fine since I don't have a strict schedule yet...) Does anyone know or have experienced this crossing? I have read a lot of different opinions and experiences online but they all seem to be outdated (2008-2009) and don't provide enough details / references to look at. Wish you could really help my out! Thanks a lot,
There are no regular passenger ships and the very remote crossing through the Torres Straits is for locals only. Incidentally, certain Indonesian ports like Bali or even Kupang may see more yacht traffic than PNG. But given your limited time (2 months from China to AU overland) you may as well just fly. Good luck! | 1
