Port Moresby - Kokoda - Popondetta Road

Hi,

Can anyone advise on the road condition of the Port Moresby - Kokoda - Popondetta road? I presume it is unsealed for most of the way and varies in condition between seasons. Of course, I am assuming there is actually a road on the Port Moresby to Kokoda section that is separate from or intersects with the Kokoda trail, but I may be very mistaken!

Also, are there any maps that anyone can recommend?

As far as I know there is no road which links Port Moresby to Kokoda which takes about seven days to walk the 96km. The track leaves from Ower's Corner (approx 30km from Port Moresby).
