Port Moresby to Honiara on a shoestring :-)

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi! :-)

Could you tell me the best/cheapest way I can get from Port Moresby to Honiara and back?

I'll be going there this December for about 2 weeks.

Thx a lot in advance ^-^

Sokdee,

Lukas

The best option would probably be to fly with Air Niugini but it probably won't be cheap.
You can try to take a private yatch... or to ask in Port Moresby if there are any ships/ferries... doing that route (I'm sorry but I can't help with sea travel) but to travel by sea is time consuming... And if you take a private yatch, a cruise or any other not scheduled service, be sure that you'll find another one to return...

I also reckon flying is both the easiest and the cheapest way.
Which doesn't mean it is actually cheap - that's South Pacific for you.
There are no "ferries" and yachts are not a realistic option in a such a short time.

Flying is the only viable option if you only have two weeks. The overland route is risky and time consuming even if you had no time limit. Check Air Niugini's timetable, as there is only one (or possibly two) flight a week.
