Questions about Yasawas

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I'm travelling 3 weeks in Fiji this October and I think I'm spending most of that time in Yasawa islands. I'm flying to Nadi so is the only way to the islands the Yasawa Flyer? And what about moving from island to island within Yasawas. Are there any local boats that are cheaper or can I just take Yasawa Flyer and pay the fee aboard? Is it necessary to book accomodation in advance and do the resorts tend to get full in October?

Some resorts have their own small boat, but generally speaking the Yasawa Flyer is the only option. The smaller resort-owned boats cost just as much, and they're less comfortable.

The best resorts will book up year-round, so it is wise to book ahead for those (Octopus, Blue Lagoon, etc.).

Have a look at the South Seas Cruises website - they have two routes to the islands. One is a shorter one doing the Mamanuca Islands - the other travels the length of the Yasawa chain. You can select dates and routes and find out the cost. You should also check with the resorts you are considering as to what they can offer but, as the previous poster suggested, the price will probably be the same. You could also look into the Awesome Adventures Fiji site to see if the Bula Pass they offer would save you money- they also do accommodation packages. Unfortunately, it is costly to travel out to the islands, but in the end, it's worth it! I also would recommend that you pre book accommodation.
