| crossie11:37 UTC15 Oct 2007 | Hi all, Yes I'm back in Niue. Firstly I haven't been able to log in for some time but that is now obviously remedied. Second I have been travelling a fair bit this year, to Hawaii and then to China, Tibet and Nepal - Lhasa to Kathmandu on a bicycle. And yes Raro, I sent some pics to one of your newspapers as Rarotongans Enoka and Porter were in the entourage and I thought it would make a nice story. Glad the published it.
Dogs in Niue! We did have a problem prior to my leaving for Asia, but I cycled around the island with the Chief of Police one sunday and he noted the problem spots. On monday his staff went around and shot all the dogs that chased us, so for now there is no problem.
Good to be back at 30 metres above sea level. 5200 metres was tough going but are fitter for it and have lost 15 kg.
Niue is a cyclist's heaven. Few hills and miles of bush tracks. On May 3rd next year we will be holding the "Rally of the Rock" a 50km cycling rally. Are working on a charter plane from Rarotonga and Air New Zealand is supporting it, maybe with cheap fares and/or freight concessions for bikes. Will keep you'll up dated if anyone is interested.

| watsoff01:30 UTC16 Oct 2007 | Yay, he's back! I'd love to cycle Niue, but as Bellona Island (which is flat as well) darn near killed me, both times. So I'll pass but continue to dream.

| mandja07:03 UTC16 Oct 2007 | Welcome backCrossie.
The cycling tour sounds great - Im a "Sunday cyclist" (Hell Rider) and would love to take part but for the problems of lack of time and $.Shame its not some weeks later, as I will be in Fiji late June.

| crossie12:46 UTC16 Oct 2007 | Yeah, I know the Rally of the Rock would be a longshot for anyone further afield than Auckland or Rarotonga (if there is a charter). But for casual peddlers there are plenty of good rental bikes available for a more leasurely pace.
By the way we now have a weekly plane coming in from Pagopago to collect the commercial fish catch. This is the mail plane from Hawaii to American Samoa which takes a detour to Niue on Friday night. Have checked out the chances of getting on it to go to Hawaii but it looks impossible due to all sorts of regulations. It may be conceivable to do the Pagopago-Niue leg but one would have to be persistant and adventurous to get on board by the sounds of things.
